I’m writing this at 0720 from Brazil where my SOL Mini Signal Mirror has traveled with me 1800 kilometers so far, safely tucked inside the buckle of my Wazoo Cache Belt. What a perfect concept. Usually, one hopes NOT to be in a situation to use their survival gear but I feel much better knowing I have great gear nearby if something goes sideways. The mirror is sized to exactly slip under the retention bands of the buckle and went right through various airport screenings without a glance. My most amusing use? Decided to use it to shave at the end of a long-haul flight to San Paulo. Of course I could have just used the mirror in the rear of the economy lavatory, but what’s the fun in that. Slid it out of the buckle and made quick work of three-day stubble. Of course, it works as intended. The sighting hole is accurate and you really don’t need anything more should by need to signal a passing boat when you’re stuck on a sand bar in the middle of the Amazon after your beater kayak springs a leak. Just get one and enjoy!
